I’m excited to tell you about two new albums to hit the streaming services this summer and autumn!
Passing Places, a 12-song album to be released on August 2nd, draws on a diverse range of songwriting traditions, some outside the scope of my earlier albums Book of Changes and Tales of Love. Among many influences you may expect to hear hints of George Harrison-inspired lead and slide guitars and Leon Russell/Elton John piano approaches; some nods to James Taylor, Tom Petty, and Bob Dylan; some gesturing to my early acoustic-performance days. Several songs dip into Americana or folk aesthetics. Some are brand new. Others have never been officially released, but you may have heard me perform them or encountered an earlier or demo version.
Most of the 10 songs on Wheel, scheduled for release in September, were written and recorded in the past two years. As a whole this album seems closer to the indie-pop, indie-rock aesthetic for which some people have known me, though it too embraces a range of styles. It opens with “Colour Wheel”, an earlier mix of which you possibly heard through a Facebook post two years ago, or maybe on Jim Prell’s radio show, The Music Authority.
These projects have been a long time coming, and the process mostly solitary with occasional contributions from a few wonderful people. (I’ll provide more specific details about each album in subsequent posts.) Working on this music has helped me through a particularly rough period following a serious accident in 2018 (and continuing recovery). My deepest thanks to family and friends who have been so helpful throughout.
